Black Samphire is an environmental folk horror that transforms the UK’s water pollution crisis into a modern monster. During a weekend away in West Sussex, journalist Mari watches her partner Isla develop an obsessive addiction to a strange plant poisoned by polluted water—triggering a horrifying transformation that exposes dark truths about the village and their relationship. The film uses genre storytelling to make an invisible crisis visceral, unsettling and impossible to ignore.
